September 2017

The month of September has been full of various activities and events. One cool thing about the Pharmacology program is that even though we all have been in the same classes for about 3 months, we still are learning new things about each other.

A few weeks ago, some of us in the program signed up to do a build for Habitat for Humanity in Jefferson, LA. Some of us painted the outside of the house, while the rest were working on flooring inside the house. The New Orleans heat isn’t very nice, but working with my peers on a house made it very manageable.

Going to class, listening to lectures, and studying for block exams can get very boring really quick, so about a dozen of us decided to make intramural volleyball and basketball teams. Stress management can be difficult when you feel bogged down in work, but having a group activity like this can help reduce stress by giving the body exercise and just enjoying time outside of the classroom.

As the program continues, I look forward to working with other community partners to get a different community service experience, but I definitely plan on participating in another build for Habitat for Humanity with some classmates. I’m even more excited because as the fall weather approaches, so do the fall holidays-like Halloween!!

Until next time,

-Joshua
